Today I want to talk about why extremes with weight loss and our standard diet culture really doesn’t work. I’m Chelsey, I’m the owner of Slay Squad Fitness Coaching, which is Phoenix Personal Training. Everything done online, nutrition coaching, virtual personal training, habits, changes, accountability, community. It’s all for you there to help you achieve your fitness goals. The typical culture that we’re in today, diet culture, is really messed up and is keeping so many of you stuck. So I wanted to dive into that a little bit more today. and help you understand why continuing to jump from fad diet to fad diet is going to leave you frustrated and overwhelmed. Our country has so many diets. The average woman is going to do dozens and dozens of diets in her lifetime and then temptingly wait dozens of times and yet our country is 70% overweight with 40% being obese. So, obviously, we’re doing something wrong. Our approach is not working. Diets don’t work. Having this awful eating lifestyle, and then just attempting to go upstream with a diet, such as keto, even carnivore, juice cleanses, anything that gives you a food list or cuts out whole food groups, this is something I see all the time. Typically what happens is you are going to see some results. You might see results right away, um, and you’re gonna be feeling good. You’re gonna be feeling good for a little bit, and you might not feel too miserable at 1st, but as time goes on and you realize that your current method of eating doesn’t fit your lifestyle, you start to get discouraged and you start to not enjoy it anymore. And a huge key to sustaining weight loss and being able to maintain a body, you feel good in, is enjoying your diet. Now, obviously, there has to be some changes, there has to be, um, restriction on some level with calories if you want to lose weight, but that doesn’t mean being miserable and not being able to enjoy your life. With Phoenix Personal Training online nutrition coaching, we help you learn to navigate this. One thing that’s really, really critical is learning how to eat foods you love while still losing weight and at least while maintaining. So the problem with our typical diet culture is it preaches that you should see results instantly. If it’s not happening fast, it’s not worth doing. You give up so quick. You want to see results within, like, week one, week two, you want a total body change. And unfortunately, if you have been stuck for months or years, you have to remember that you need to allow a good, significant amount of time in order to get back because what we teach with Phoenix personal training is true lifestyle and habit changes because that is the only thing. This is the only way you are actually going to maintain any results that you do see. The problem that I have with many typical diet methods, one, is oftentimes you are not getting the full spectrum of nutrients that you need. When you are cutting out certain food groups, you are eliminating things that sometimes your body needs to function and thrive at its best. Women in particular are a little more sensitive to not getting carbs than men are. We have different hormonal changes and things that are going to impact us in a different way than with men. Men can get away with doing a little bit more restrictive methods, without the harmful effects, then women can. Women really can’t. Women have more negative effects with the more extreme diets that they go to. So it’s really important that women take a more sustainable lifestyle approach. Another issue that I have with the restrictive diets is not just eating foods that maybe they shouldn’t be all the time or eliminating foods that maybe they do need. but it’s with the relationship with food that it typically affects the most. When I work with women, a large majority of them report that they have a poor relationship with food. And a lot of this comes from our typical diet culture, teaches you that certain foods aren’t bad. It kind of decides like moral value to the way that you need to like instant results. And that mindset is really, really negative. And it also kind of creates this all or nothing mentality that you’re either following the diet, you’re being quote unquote, good. You’re being a good person or you’re being bad, right? You had a cheeseburger, you ate off diet, you’re being bad. That mentality is so silly and it’s going to make you stuck because unless you plan to cut out cheeseburgers, French fries, chips and salsa, a margarita, unless you plan to cut out pizza, all the things you love forever. You shouldn’t do it at all because it’s not going to work. All this does is create restriction in your mind, and it’s going to greatly harm your relationship with food. And key to getting lean and stain lean is a healed relationship with food. So when people come to us in the slice squad with Phoenix personal training and online nutrition coaching, one of the 1st things we help them do is understand that even with any nutrition protocol they’re following, even if they’re heading back on calories without weight loss, they are allowed to eat anything. They are allowed to eat anything, and for some people, it takes them a little bit of time to kind of get used to this. Now, that doesn’t mean you just go, ham, and you need a huge portion. Obviously, you got to restrict your portion if you want to lose weight. But that your diet, your nutrition protocols, can always include some nights out. They can include a birthday party. They can include a celebratory drink on a date night. That if those things are important to you, and your happiness, and your lifestyle, the best thing you can do for your weight loss journey is to learn to incorporate those things. Like, how do you still have a cocktail that’s important to you? How do you still have some French fries? How do you still celebrate birthdays with friends and family? while achieving your goals. And until you can learn to do that, you are not going to be successful in the long run. I see it all the time. So, if you’re looking to really get in shape, really change your life, first, obviously hire us. Play squad with me, personal training and online nutrition coaching and hire us so we can help teach you what it looks like to have that healed relationship with food. But also, how do we take those 1st few steps so that you’re healing your relationship with food, but also see progress. You should be seeing progress. It’s really easy to get discouraged if you feel like you’re eating healthy, but you’re not eating the scale change. So that’s why people tend to resort to restrictive methods because they’re like, oh, when I did keto, when I cut out these foods, I saw progress. Like, yeah, of course you did. You slash, like, all carbs from your life. You eliminated eating out, like, you cut out all the things you loved. How long can you stick with that, though? Because as long as you can sit with it, that’s how long your results are gonna last. If you can take it for 3 months, break, you’re gonna look good or see some progress for 3 months. But then a lot of times what happens when you stop these methods is that you not only gain the weight back, but sometimes it’s even like the courtesy 10 to 15. So you stop your diet, you gain all the way back, but then a few more extra pounds. And then every time you attempt something, extreme, you’re kind of like taking one step forward, 2 steps backwards. Where I would rather you take like these baby steps forward and keep moving forward and keep taking these massive steps back because of the wrong methods that you choose to keep implementing into your life. If a coach ever gives you a food list, run. If they tell you you’re not allowed to eat certain things. You need to run because really it’s so important that you learn to navigate, how to eat out, how to eat certain things, or you’re never gonna get to where you want to go and maintain it. So that’s what we do inside of the Slice Squad, Phoenix Personal Training Online Nutrition code date. If you’re looking for that next step in your journey, you’re really tired of the yo-yo.
