This is Chelsey with the Slay Squad fitness and nutrition coaching and Phoenix Personal Training and today, we’re gonna talk about mindset. What mindset do we need to be in in order to have the best possible results in our programs and see the results that we want while we’re working towards fat loss or muscle building and basically building our dream body. What do we need to do? What changes do we need to make in order to make that happen? One problem I often see people make is choosing the quickest method possible in order to achieve weight loss or get to your end goal. And this will never work long term. When you choose methods that are quick and easy over being healthy, a lot of times what happens is you will lose weight quickly, but you will end up gaining a lot of the weight back because you chose a method that you could never stick with. An example of this is the keto diet. It might work temporarily, but probably is not going to work for you long term unless you plan to never eat a carb again, which most of us don’t want to do. So the mindset shift that you need to get into is that this is a journey. This is going to take a little while. And when you stop trying to go from what is the quickest way I can lose weight and see if the scale dip to, how can I transform my habits and my lifestyle so that this is the body it can maintain? That is when the magic will happen and when you actually will get results that will last. This can be a hard mindset shift to switch, especially if you’ve been stuck in your ways of doing things for months, years, decades. But the sooner you can establish the idea that this is going to take a little bit of time, you did not gain weight in 3 months. This has likely been years in the making. You’re not going to undo it in a few months. And if the look that you’re after requires some muscle, which for most of us it does, you want full glutes, you want to see a little bit of ab definition, you want some tone, that requires muscle. This is going to be a journey. And the sooner you can get in headspace, this is gonna take some time, the quicker you were gonna start seeing results.
One positive way to look at this is that this slower method will actually get you to your dream goal faster than the quick methods ever will because those methods actually won’t get you to your end goal at all because they’re unsustainable. So that is one of the major mindset shifts that I want you to get in in order for this to work for you. With the Slay Squad Fitness and Nutrition Coaching in Phoenix Personal Training, we hold biweekly team calls in order to help support our clients with making some of these mindset shifts because we all need to check ourselves. We all need to work on how we process body image, how we think about food, how we think about results, because our mind really does dictate the trajectory of which way we go with our results and how long we can stick with something. Another mindset shift that I like to help women with is to stop viewing things as good or bad in regards to food. So to stop viewing a certain food as good and as certain food as bad, as far as assigning it, a moral value. When you do that, you assign guilt or shame to food and a feeling of that you’re doing something right because you eat a salad, which is so silly, because all foods are okay in moderation. All foods belong in your diet. A piece of birthday cake on your birthday, a glass of champagne to celebrate something, is absolutely okay. I would encourage it as part of your lifestyle. I would never say cut all all these things that you love that bring new enjoyment that are part of your social life forever to look a certain way at all costs. That’s a recipe to be thin, but miserable. And the ultimate win is having the body, you love a body feel amazing in, and enjoying food and having a healthy relationship with food. If you have one and not the other, it’s not a win in my book. So we have to help you have both. And this starts with getting rid of the mentality of good versus bad foods. With Phoenix personal training, we work with our clients every single week to help them overcome this. What happens with a lot of women who have this idea that foods are good or bad, is they will often times eat well and feel like they’re doing something good, but then the second they allow something that maybe is a little bit more high in sugar or high in fat, or let’s say it’s French fries, they tend to go a little crazy. It kind of creates an all or nothing mentality. They’re either being good or they’re being bad. It can also create a punishment mentality. I see this a lot where women will feel the need to over exercise, run, or do extra cardio in order to punish themselves for bad decisions made.
Women will feel the need to over exercise to run to do extra cardio in order to make up for being bad with food. And we don’t want to get into this awful mentality that you need to punish yourself for enjoying food. Instead, we want to teach you how to have a small amount of that food in moderation and how to make decisions around food that can allow you to reach your goals. But also enjoy your life. And I promise that is possible for every single one of you that is willing to work at it. But working on your mental state and your mindset around your body image and food is so important if you want to sustain these changes and really be able to make the changes that you’re after. Another mindset shift I want you to make is that if you want a body that looks incredible, that’s maybe next level, that has, again, rounded glutes, a lean stomach, you have some muscle definition. This is not normal in America. This is the top 10%, maybe even top 5%. Maybe more than that. Most people in America are overweight if they are a healthy weight, they are oftentimes under muscled. In my opinion, it’s not the ideal look. Most of the time when women come to us, they want to look toned. You have to understand this is not normal in America. This is not something that most people have. You want more than what most people have. You want to be elite. You want to be fit, strong. You want to look incredible. Most people will never do that. So you have to get it through your head that you won’t get to do exactly what everyone else is doing. If you’re always trying to do exactly what everyone else is doing, be like your friends, your family members get to eat what they eat, do everything that they do, have the lifestyle and habits they do then you will never get there. So you have to start to separate yourself from their behaviors and from behaviors of the crowd. If you want a body that those people and most people do not have, you are going to have to do things that most people are not willing to do. You’re gonna have to do it for way longer than most people are willing to stick to something. And if you’re constantly being like, “oh, but my friends are doing this, oh, but my friends are drinking 5 nights a week and they’re doing happy hour every day.” Well, okay, go do that, but you’re never going to have your goal body. And that may seem harsh, but it is the truth. If you want something that most people don’t have, you’re going to have to do a lot of things that most people are unwilling to do. It doesn’t have to be extreme. It just has to be healthy, healthy moderation, healthy balance. Most of us don’t know how to do that, and our examples are really terrible, which has led to the unhealthy lifestyles we live and the obesity crisis that we’re in. So you have to accept today that you’re going to be a little different and that’s okay. doesn’t mean you have to lose all your friends. Doesn’t mean you have to never be social, but you are going to have to make some level of changes, some level of sacrifices, if you want a body that reflects that, because your body doesn’t lie, you cannot cheat your results, the sooner you can get that through your head, that your body’s a direct reflection of the work that you are or are not putting in, the sooner we can get you to your goal. And with the Slay Squad fitness and nutrition coaching and Phoenix personal training, we are all about cheering you on, giving you that support and encouragement, but also giving you the honesty that you need and the tough love and accountability that you need. Most of you are going to hire a coach not to just tell you everything you want to hear and butter you up, but to hold you to a different standard so you can have that body that you want. So you can feel incredible. So you can have optimal gut health, great relationship with food, a body that is in the top 5 to 10%. And yes, this is going to take some work. So the sooner you can just embrace the process and the journey, the better this is gonna be for you. And with Phoenix personal training, we’ve helped so many women achieve this. It’s not as far off as you think. You just have to buckle in and make these shifts in your mindset today, so we can start actually making headway and progress towards those goals.
Another mindset shift that I want you to get away from is thinking that you can do this alone. You really can’t. Most of us can’t. Everyone wants to say I can lose weight on my own. I can get in shape by myself, I don’t need to hire a coach. I don’t need to hire a trainer. I don’t need to have that community. Most of you are wrong about that. Most of you do need that, and you need it for a little more than a few months. You need to tell these things are second nature to you until these habits are just something you do automatically, until the gym is just something that is a part of your life. And you have the body that you want. And until you have those things in place, it’s very difficult to maintain it. A lot of you need a lot more support than you’re willing to admit. And the sooner you can say, “hey, I actually do so much better with a coach. I actually do so much better with a trainer. I actually do so much better with friends doing this with me in a community who supports me, the quicker we can get you there.” Trying to go solo, especially if you’re not someone that has friends that are really into this, that doesn’t have any kind of person that’s ever guiding you, helping you, holding you accountable, and just doesn’t have that group of women around you, supporting you, it’s just going to be so much harder and take so much longer if you ever get there. That’s another harsh truth. But the sooner you can make these mindset shifts, the sooner you are going to absolutely crush it on your health journey. So this is Chelsey with the Slay Squad fitness and nutrition coaching and Phoenix personal training. If you want to get started with us, fill out a form and we’ll reach out same day.
